Meet Our Flight Instructing Team
Paul Perovich – General Manager
Paul Perovich brought his rich aviation background to Twin Cities Flight Training in March of 2014. He holds an ATP Certificate, Flight Engineer Turbojet Certificate, and a Flight Instructor Certificate. Paul flew twenty-two years in the military, flying helicopters with the Minnesota Army National Guard where he was a full-time instructor at the St. Paul facility. In 1985 Paul was asked to join the South Dakota Air National Guard to head their night vision goggle program and is where he finished his military career flying A-7D Corsairs and F-16C Fighting Falcons. Paul also had a successful career with American airlines where he retired off the Boeing 777 in 2010.
Paul has over 17,000 hours of flight time in general aviation, 135 charter, 121 air carrier, and the military. His type ratings include B727, B757, B767, B777, and the C650. Paul has brought a wealth of knowledge, experience, and professionalism to the helm of Twin Cities Flight Training that no other flight school in the region can match. Over the past five years Paul has made Twin Cities Flight Training the most professional flight school in the upper Midwest for future airline pilots.
DJ Horton – Chief Flight Instructor
DJ started flying as child with his dad and at 16 earned his Private Pilot Certificate - Glider. DJ grew up in San Diego and spent several years traveling internationally for both business and pleasure before settling in Minnesota. He has extensive global experience, having flown throughout East Africa and the Middle East, visiting more than 35 countries in all. He has worked for CFR Part 91/91k and 135 operators and holds type ratings in the Citation 650, Falcon 10, Phenom 300 and Learjet 60. DJ holds FAA ATP, CFI, CFII, MEI, AGI, and IGI certificates, a CAA Commercial validation from South Africa and has served as a training captain on the King Air 200 and the Citation 650. When DJ isn’t flying he enjoys photography and triathlon training.
Jim Reed – Certified Flight Instructor, Stage Check Instructor
Jim joined Twin Cities Flight Training in 2018. He first learned to fly while in high school, earning his Private Pilot Certificate in a Cessna 150 out of a small grass airstrip in North Carolina. He went on to St. Cloud State University where he earned Commercial (ASEL, AMEL, ASES) and Flight Instructor (CFI, CFII) ratings. He enjoys helping all levels of students and pilots reach their goals. When not flying enjoys spending time traveling, gardening, and playing piano.
Thomas McCullough – Certified Flight Instructor
Thomas began his aviation career at the University of North Dakota in January 2014, where he earned his Commercial, Multi-engine, and Instrument flight certificates. He later earned his Flight Instructor certificate at Twin Cities Flight Training before graduating from UND with a major in Aviation Management. Shortly afterward, Thomas began instructing at TCFT, where he has given over 500 hours of flight instruction. In addition to flying airplanes, he enjoys cycling and rollerblading from his home in St. Paul to just about anywhere in the Twin Cities. A true Minnesotan, his favorite season is winter, allowing him to play ice hockey and broomball outdoors.
James Bauer – Certified Flight Instructor
James began flying in 1998 while attending school at St. Cloud State. During his time at St. Cloud, James earned his Commercial Certificate, his Flight Instructor Certificate, and a Bachelor of Science Degree. After college James took a short break from aviation and earned his Master Plumbers License and currently owns his own plumbing company. James joined Twin Cities Flight Training in 2015 and quickly became a go to instructor for the students in TCFT’s program. James spends his down time fishing, going to the movies and spending time with his family
Ethan Peterson – Certified Flight Instructor
Ethan’s background in aviation began when he started working on his Private Pilot Certificate while attending Bethel University. After graduating from Bethel University with a degree in Political Science, he decided to pursue a career in aviation. Ethan completed the rest of his training in Long Beach, CA where he earned a CFI, CFII, and MEI. Upon completion of these ratings, he moved back to Minnesota. Ethan enjoys instructing at Twin Cities Flight Training and helping students accomplish their flying goals. When he’s not flying, Ethan enjoys spending time at the family cabin and watching the Minnesota Vikings.
Eric Strodhoff – Certified Flight Instructor
Eric Strodthoff ATP, FE, CFI, CFII, MEI. Eric is a former airline captain, having flown with two national airlines, and most recently retired from United Airlines. He holds type ratings in the SA-227 and the Saab 340, and has logged over 9100 flight hours with more than 900 hours of instruction given. Eric strives to provide the highest quality professional instruction to pilots from all aviation disciplines to foster greater safety and enthusiasm for the sport.
Kim Peck – Flight Operations Manager
Kim is the ray of sunshine at Twin Cities Flight Training. Her responsibilities include scheduling and dispatching flights, greeting students and helping them through the initial process and paperwork for flight training. When she's not working Kim enjoys fishing, hunting and spending time with family and friends.
